Is laser liposuction safe?

It is a very safe procedure but it is not risk free. Make sure that your physician has the propper background and training and that the facility when the procedure is being performed meet propper guidelines. Tip: If your physician is board certified by the board of plastic surgery or dermatology and the facility is clean and has the necessary equipment for emergenicies you are less likely to have trouble.

THE YOUTH-FIL- LIFT -2

You mean that a facelift really doesn’t work!

“No, it works to lift the facial structures and remove excess skin but it really doesn’t address the real causes of the aging face.” “The effects of aging in the face consist of three elements: Loss of facial volume, we deflate, Loss of elasticity, especially in the neck, and Loss of the smooth texture of the skin, we have fine lines and rough surface. So pulling and stretching just results in a look that looks pulled and stretched. And doesn’t address the root causes of aging in the face”

What about the mini-facelift and fillers?

“ I was one of the first plastic surgeons in the area to adopt the concept of the mini-facelift and have been performing this procedure for more than 20 years The idea was to minimize the scar and yet to tighten the deeper layers to get the effect. It worked but didn’t address the effects of aging around the mouth, eyes and cheeks. Fillers such as Restylane® or Juvederm® work as well but are only temporary fixes and end up being very expensive.”  “In order to restore a more youthful appearance we had to find a very effective permanent way of restoring volume to the face, elasticity to the neck and an effective way to resurface the skin.”

THE YOUTH-FIL- LIFT

An Interview with Dr. Joel B. Singer about new developments in plastic surgery

Dr. Singer I understand that you have some exciting news to tell everyone about a new concept in plastic surgery.

Yes, “As a board certified plastic surgeon with more than thirty years of experience with facial rejuvenation, I realized that we had been missing some very important information. For years, we thought that the facelift, in which the facial skin and deeper layers had to be pulled and stretched upward, was the best way to make you look younger. Most plastic surgeons were performing very extensive surgical procedures such as deep plane facelift. No one realized that the reason the results looked pulled and stretched and didn’t last very long was that we weren’t really restoring youthfulness. Now there is a better more natural way”

Fat Grafting to the Breasts

It is being practiced in the US within “studies” to ascertain long term safety but let’s ask some important questions. Why is it still considered controversial here in the US? Is it because we have such a perverse legal system that would like to find someone to blame for every malady that befalls us?

Fat grafting is extremely technique dependent. The viability of the fat cell is a key ingredient to the sucess of this procedure. The injection technique can be performed to respect the integrity of the breast. Fat necrosis and calcification are less likely to happen with current techniques. Obscuring the diagnosis of breast cancer is a concern but scar tissue, breast implants and other factors can obscure the diagnosis. Is fat grafting more problematic than a silicone breast implant? I don’t think so.

Recent developments worldwide have given rise to a change of opinion about fat grafting to the breast and I believe it will become commonplace in the US in the near future.

Can I have a Butt that Looks Like Kim Kardashian’s Butt?

That sounds like a good goal. I don’t know if she had a Brazilian Butt Lift or not but in Hollywood anything is possible. The Brazilian Butt lift involves a series of steps to enhance the buttocks including lipo sculpting of all of the surrounding areas, harvesting of viable fat and then properly re-injecting the fat.

Successful butt enhancement usually requires special techniques and consideration. For instance the areas surrounding the buttocks have to be sculpted in such a way as to enhance the buttock shape prior to the fat transfer. Hips, outer and inner thigh liposuction should be performed first. Quite often the area of the lower back just above the buttocks is an area that must be addressed.
Successful fat grafting depends upon the following factors:
1. Harvesting of viable fat cells
Fat can be harvested by syringe but that can be a very time consuming procedure. Using a traditional liposuction machine, laser lipo or ultrasonic lipo machine is a waste of time because the fat cells will die in the process.I have been thrilled with the use of the Body Jet machine for the initial lipo sculpting and harvesting of very viable fat. The fat is extracted in a gentle manner using the water assisted system set on low and the suction machine is used on half strength. The fat is collected in a special device that filters out unwanted particles, and extracts the water leaving intact concentrated fat cells that can be re injected.
2. Injection technique
The fat has to be injected using a 2-2.5 mm. cannula tunneling in a honeycomb manner at the appropriate level. The first level is in the gluteus muscle fascia and muscle itself. To achieve a lift the upper portion of the muscle is enhanced first. After the volumetric change has been achieved, additional fat is injected into the subcutaneous tissues to smooth out dimples, wrinkles and to give the buttocks a better shape. Approximately 300-500 cc of fat is usually necessary for each side.
